Open grassland to the horizon, the highest concentration of big cats in Africa, and — if the timing lines up — the thunder of the wildebeest migration crossing the Mara River.
The Maasai Mara is the reason most people picture Kenya the way they do — endless golden plains, lion prides draped over rocky outcrops, and herds that stretch to the horizon. It's the northern extension of the Serengeti ecosystem, home to the Big Five and, between roughly July and October, the Great Migration's dramatic Mara River crossings.
A typical day here — a good starting point while we put together the full guide from our own trip.
Head out at first light when predators are most active — the best window for lion, cheetah and leopard sightings.
Early MorningAn optional cultural stop with a local Maasai community — traditions, beadwork and a look at life alongside the wildlife.
Late MorningA meal out on the plains, vehicle parked in the shade, with nothing but grassland in every direction.
MiddayA second drive as the light turns gold, ending with sundowners as the plains go quiet.
EveningNote: this is a placeholder guide built from typical highlights — the real story from our own trip will be added here soon.
